Opener ‘Plans’ plods slightly, a bit like Athlete in one of their less agitiated moments, and 2nd track’Sometimes/Aways’ isn’t a cover of the JAMC’s now-forgotten Spacerock epic, although I couldn’t help wondering what might happen if someone offered the song to Sínead O’Connor. Cue ambient dithering on third track ‘One Small Step’ but fourth and best song ‘Lights Out’ sounds as if Satellite State have got the hang of the 48 track studio and is the best of their material on offer here. Needs some more guts though lads. I’ve heard it done both better and less expensively.

Nooooooooo… this EP rocks!

Plods slightly? Dithering? Heard it done both better and less expensively?
Hardly words that come to mind to describe what is a brilliant EP. And to even think of name dropping the Irish wailer (whose only claim to fame was a Mr Nelson song) in the same breath as Satellite State… well, delusional is one of many words that comes to mind.
The EP is a fantastic little number. From Plans, to Sometimes Always (yes, it has an L in it), to One Small Step and right on to the end of Lights Out… captivation and melodic, kaleidoscopic mindframe ensues irrevocably.
Easily one of the worst “reviews” I’ve ever come across.
I personally think you’re being too harsh, just because you don’t like their style you attack them and almost accuse them of copying styles.
If you ever went to a live show, you’d be overwhelmed by how huge their sound is. Another point in hand is they play at EXACTLY the same speed live as they do for the EP – not a lot of bands can do that, which proves they are well adjusted.
I think give them a chance and you might like them
You must have cotton in your ears then, because this is obviously one of the best albums I’ve heard in ages. Seriously. A band like this is a rare find, and they are definately the silver lining in my iPod. Maybe you should take your drudgery somewhere else and let us love this EP.
{satellite-state} is going to be around for a good long while, if I have anything to do with it, so get used to the sound!
I think I’d agree with Nick re: the bands live abilities. It does happen, great live band goes into the studio and doesn’t quite set the mixing desk on fire. And I am also wondering what a female vocalist might do for their material -
Perhaps I shouldn’t judge every EP I hear alongside the work of highly experienced (and probably quite well paid) professional musicians.
